Michael J. Flynn

Mr. Flynn is a founding partner of Flynn Williams LLP. He practiced in San Francisco from 1970 to 1999 where he was managing partner of Flynn & Stewart, and then moved his practice to Marin County, California.

Mr. Flynn's practice emphasizes complex real estate transactions. He is well known for the breadth of his experience, and for an acute business sense which he uses to solve many sophisticated legal matters with a mutually acceptable business solution. Mr. Flynn's expertise in real estate transactions includes the purchase and sale of multi-family and commercial real property, manufactured housing communities, and self storage facilities, commercial transactions, entity formation and dissolution, secured lending and refinancing, IRC Section 1031 exchange transactions, leases, and the negotiation, documentation and dispute resolution of and concerning all such transactions.

Mr. Flynn's experience in real estate litigation and trials dates back over thirty years. He was an attorney for the largest builders of condominiums in the United States through most of the 1980s and defended hundreds of millions of dollars of construction defect cases. He has also successfully prosecuted dozens of construction defect, inverse condemnation and landslide and water diversion cases for plaintiffs. As an attorney for real estate owners and investors, his clients have been both plaintiffs and defendants, and his representation has involved everyone with a hand in the transaction including brokers, syndicators, developers, lenders, escrow and title insurance companies, contractors and governmental entities. He has represented numerous developers, brokers, banks, escrow and title insurance, and insurance companies. In addition to litigation proceedings, Mr. Flynn has also represented owners with numerous administrative and regulatory entities including the Coastal Commission, the TRPA, local Planning Commissions, City Councils and Regional Water Quality Control Boards.

Mr. Flynn has served as an arbitrator and mediator. He has also taught continuing education classes on construction and real estate development.
